What is Hypnobirthing / Hypno-Natal® ?
Hypnobirthing and HypnoNatal® are terms that describe using hypnosis in childbirth. Both methods are effective in reducing pain, fear, and anxiety during labor. However, there are subtle differences between them
Hypnobirthing
Hypnobirthing is the term most commonly known worldwide for using hypnosis during childbirth.
Method: The focus of Hypnobirthing is on breathing techniques, visualization, relaxation, and positive affirmations. It helps the mother achieve deep relaxation, reducing fear and promoting the natural flow of birth.
Approach: The approach in Hypnobirthing tends to be more standardized and uses a set curriculum with universal techniques that are applicable to various birth scenarios.
Self-Hypnosis: In Hypnobirthing, there is a strong emphasis on self-hypnosis and learning techniques that the mother can use during labor.
HypnoNatal®
HypnoNatal® is a more specific approach, developed by Lise Bartoli that combines hypnotherapy with a focus on emotional well-being and pregnancy empowerment.
Tailored for pregnancy: While similar to Hypnobirthing, HypnoNatal® often offers more customization for each individual, focusing not only on pain management during labor but also on creating a deeply relaxing experience throughout the pregnancy, fostering emotional healing, and preparing the mind and body for the postpartum period.
Metaphors and imagery: HypnoNatal® sessions often use metaphors and symbolic visualizations specifically related to pregnancy, childbirth, and the unique journey of each woman.
Holistic approach: HypnoNatal® also considers the mental, emotional, and physical needs of the mother, aiming to help her integrate a balanced sense of calm and trust throughout her pregnancy and birth
Which One is for You?
While both methods are effective in reducing pain and promoting a calm and positive birth, HypnoNatal® may be ideal for those looking for a more personalized, holistic approach that blends relaxation, emotional support, and deeper connection with the birth experience.
If you're looking for self-hypnosis with a focus on breathing and visualization, Hypnobirthing might resonate more with you. But if you're interested in exploring symbolic imagery, emotional release, and enhanced empowerment throughout your pregnancy, HypnoNatal® could be a perfect fit!
Both methods aim to support you in creating the birth experience you desire, with calmness and confidence.
How does it work ?
The idea behind hypnosis for birth is that learning to control your thoughts can help control pain. In fact, if during the labor, the woman interprets the pain as a positive or productive experience, she will experience less pain.
We know that when we are stressed, our body produces the hormone adrenaline. This raises the heart rate and blood pressure, and oxygen gets diverted to our essential organs. However, adrenaline slows down labor by inhibiting oxytocin, the hormone that helps with contractions. Adrenaline makes muscles tighten and makes us feel more pain.
On the other hand, oxytocin is essential during labor as it allows muscles to relax and decreases the awareness of pain.
So, learning techniques to calm down, such as self-hypnosis, meditation, and knowing what to expect during labor, may help reduce fear and anxiety about giving birth.
How Are the Sessions Hypno-Natal® with Me?
I offer individual Hypno-Natal® sessions, which are composed of 4 individual sessions, spaced 3 to 4 weeks apart, starting from the 4th or 5th month of pregnancy. Each session addresses a particular theme, followed by a specific relaxation time rich in metaphors and symbols.
A booklet and audio recordings will be given to you at the end of the sessions so that you can practice at home.
During the sessions, we work on physical and mental relaxation combined with visualizations, positive suggestions, and metaphors specially created for pregnancy and childbirth. It is a simple and accessible method for all expectant mothers.
Thanks to a state of focused attention that promotes internal communication, this technique helps to live the pregnancy as serenely as possible and positively approach childbirth. It allows women to draw from their intuition and personal assurance in order to fully and actively experience the birth of their child.
I recommend that pregnancy partners attend at least the first session in order to experience this state of well-being and learn to manage their emotions.

It’s not a requirement for childbirth, but this technique has many benefits for the birth.

Who I am ?
I’m Audrey, a certified hypnosis practitioner, coach, and proud mother of two. I discovered hypnosis during my first pregnancy and personally used the HypnoNatal® method to support myself through both of my pregnancies and births. This deeply empowering experience inspired me to make it a central part of my work.
Since founding my practice in Berlin in 2018, I’ve been supporting women and couples to navigate pregnancy, birth, and parenthood with more calm, confidence, and connection. In addition to HypnoNatal®, I offer support around emotional wellbeing, life and career transitions, fertility, returning to work after baby, and intimacy and sexuality after birth — all essential parts of the journey into parenthood.
My approach is gentle, personalized, and always grounded in deep listening, compassion, and respect for your unique rhythm.
